![]() I just though, “This might be it,” played it and knew it was right at once. ![]() Really, it’s a new experience every time and I can’t really explain how it all came together, The bass run for “Simple Man” (A – B -C) just sort of happened. My usual strategy is to mess around mindlessly on the high E to figure out the key signature and then go from there. Yeah, so I am really getting much better at learning songs by ear. Anyway, the chords areįor any part of the song. It sounds pretty rad when I play them over the song, but I just played the chords here from memory so they aren’t really in the strum pattern of the song. However, I jazzed things up by taking the bass notes and making them into chords. This last bit is just the repetitious bassline to “Melancholy Hill”, another Gorillaz song. Here’s a link…Īnyway, play this on a bass guitar and you have ~25% of this song. Interestingly, I figured out the key during the acoustic guitar part (which I hope to figure out soon) because the dense amount of information from the chords made it easy to solo over the song. This riff begins and ends on the tonic (Eb). I didn’t have a bass guitar so I had to play this instead on the high E string (because the bass was played in drop D, and I’m not going to try drop tuning my guitar with a Snark (Trademark) tuner – they suck.). This next bit is the bassline from “Feel Good Inc.” by the Gorillaz (a.k.a. except when there are those lead-ins like the first progression in the song that just adds the chords Am – Gmaj – Am to the ending instead of Am7. For those interested, the chord progression for the chorus is ![]() I’ve got all of this written down in my journal. ![]() ![]() Well I had a very productive weekend and was able to figure out all of the notes/chords in Shinedown’s version of “Simple Man”… here’s the URL.Īnyway, I was able to record this, which is obviously not the whole song (because it would be boring to play just the guitar part) but is instead the main riff and then the chorus chords. ![]()
